„The dialogue of the human immune system with viruses, bacteria and funghi is faszinating. We ignore most microorganisms, some we make use of, and some cause diseases. Infectious diseases are a constant threat to our society, the COVID-19 pandemic provides a drastic example. The Robert-Koch foundation promotes research on the pathogens and on the reactions of our immune system to them, immunity and autoimmunity, to combat infectious diseases based on a holistic understanding. The Robert-Koch prizes make progress visible, they are a compass for future research. This is why the Robert-Koch foundation is so important to me!“ Prof. Dr. Andreas Radbruch
